Brenda Behan is an experienced humanitarian and international development operations manager, engineer and environmentalist, currently serving as the Director of Gender with the United Nations World Food Programme, focusing on supporting gender equality and women’s empowerment in the context of food security and nutrition. Prior to this role, Brenda served as the Deputy Regional Director for the WFP Eastern Africa Bureau, as the Senior Deputy Country Director in Kenya, and in technical engineering roles with WFP and the US Government. She has experience in relief, resilience, refugees, and capacity strengthening and emergency response. Brenda holds a masters degree in Community and Economic Development and a bachelors degree in Engineering. She is passionate about WFP’s ability to change lives, gender equality, environmental and social sustainability, and evidence-based approaches to decision-making.
