Dr Hamza al-Kateab is a Syrian doctor, human rights activist and public health advocate. Hamza was featured in the BAFTA-winning and OSCAR-nominated documentary For Sama which was filmed, narrated and directed by his wife, Waad al-Kateab, presenting their work and life in east Aleppo from the beginning of the Syrian revolution until the displacement in 2016. Hamza now dedicates his time to continued advocacy efforts around ending the targeting of hospitals in Syria and other conflict areas and is the Co-Founder of Action For Sama alongside Waad. He is now doing his PhD at King’s College on the medical evacuation for civilians during siege and developing managerial training programmes for health workers in conflict areas.
