Radhya Al-Mutawakel
Chairperson, Mwatana for Human Rights
Radhya al-Mutawakel is a human rights defender. She is the chairperson and the co-founder of Mwatana Organization, an independent Yemeni organization aiming to defend and protect human rights. For more than 20 years she has worked on human rights including serving on the National Women's Committee in Yemen from 2000 until 2004. In 2017, she was awarded the “Global Advocate Award” from the Columbia Law School Human Rights Institute and was one of Time’s 100 most influential people of 2019. Radhya has brought global attention to the crisis and conflict in Yemen, presenting in front of the UN Security Council, The Congress, as well as the European Parliament.
